Trans Canada Trail

Initiated in 1992 as a project to celebrate Canada’s 125th year, the Trans Canada Trail (TCT) is the world’s longest network of multi-use recreational trails. When completed, it will stretch 23,000 kilometres from the Atlantic to the Pacific to the Arctic Oceans, through every province and territory, linking over 1000 communities and all Canadians.

NS Trails has been the provincial partner responsible for connecting the Trans Canada Trail in Nova Scotia since the inception of this national legacy project. Our goal aligns with the national goal of connecting the Trail as a continuous route by 2017. This will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Trail and Canada’s 150th anniversary since Confederation.

NS Trails has a significant amount of work to accomplish in Nova Scotia to reach this goal. We are working with communities and volunteers from Halifax through to the New Brunswick border and to the ferry in North Sydney to make this national dream a reality. To accomplish this goal we need your help.

You may contribute by making a charitable donation or by volunteering your time. To make a donation online, visit our Donate page and click on the Canada Helps button. To volunteer with the TCT in your community, please send us an email detailing where you live and the skills or services you would like to offer.

Volunteers who can help with the following tasks would be extremely valuable to this project:  construction, engineering, heavy equipment and operators, chain saw operators, risk management, project management, accounting, writing, media relations, marketing, event planning, government relations, fundraising, donor relations, administrative assistants, website development and maintenance, social media, graphic design, signage and installation.  We look forward to hearing from you!
