NS Trails is an umbrella group representing a wide range of trail users throughout the province. The primary purpose is to promote the development and wise use of trails for the benefit of Nova Scotians and visitors. Membership in NS Trails is comprised of the founding organizations and any other association of trail users admitted by the Board of Directors. Associate memberships are available to individuals, organizations, families and others.
The establishment of trails, pathways, greenways, and other corridors for outdoor recreation is one of the fastest growing trends in North America today. Established in 1989, the Nova Scotia Trails Federation has an office with an Executive Director and is busy responding to increasing demands for information on trails and related topics.
With more than 300,000 Nova Scotians using trails, we can provide a medium for channeling communication, ideas, queries and information between all parties involved in trail use, construction, administration and regulation. Since much of the land in this province is owned or used by private interests, NS Trails is interested in promoting cooperation and understanding between landowners and trail users. We also see a need for coordination of the interests of various user groups, community groups and government agencies.
